In the first meeting this season between the Jackals and Cyclones, Elmira asserted itself as the dominant team during the first period. The Jackals out-shot Cincinnati 23-7 and were rewarded with two goals for their efforts. Rob Bellamy netted his second goal in as many games, and fifth of the year, just past eight minutes into the contest when he spiked home the rebound of a Kyle Bushee point shot. Christian Ouellet also assisted for his first point as a Jackal. Artem Demkov followed up with his 10th of the year 3:28 after Bellamy's marker to double Elmira's lead. Scott Greenham stopped each of the seven shots he faced in the first, but that was only a precursor of what was to come.

Elmira ended up shorthanded by two men 36 seconds into the third period, and Cincinnati was able to pressure offensively for the first time all game. The Cyclones manage three shots in the 1:40 of 5-on-3 play, but none of them found their way past Greenham. Shortly after the teams returned to full strength Cincinnati tested Greenham with two different breakaways but he answered the bell on both. The Cyclones finally broke through off the rush when John McFarland hammered home a one-timer off a feed from Adam Brace. That was part of a 16-shot barrage by the Cyclones in the second. Elmira responded with 13 of its own and, thanks to 15 saves by Greenham along with the work of the penalty killers, took the lead into the third.

Elmira's special teams play hit another level in the final frame. The Jackals first killed off a high-sticking double-minor to Jordan Pietrus just before the period was six minutes old, and then turned Cincinnati away when Matt Carter went off for hooking with a little over two minutes to go. Cincinnati pulled goalie Michael Houser while Carter served his infraction and gained a 6-on-4 skater advantage. In all the Cyclones peppered Greenham with 13 shots in the third but were turned away at every opportunity.

Greenham earned his fifth win of the season in stopping 35 shots while Houser took his fourth loss with 40 stops. Elmira ended the night 0-for-3 on the power play and 8-for-8 on the penalty kill.

Mark your calendars! The Jackals return are back on home ice Friday, December 6 to take on the Fort Wayne Komets. The Jackals will be hosting a Teddy Bear Toss! Bring a new stuffed animal to the game and throw it onto the ice when the Jackals score their first goal. All tossed animals will be donated to local charities. Don't forget that groups of 10 or more who book in advance receive discounts off the box office price and preferred seating based on availability. The Jackals are facing the Cyclones tonight for the first of seven meetings this season and first of two at First Arena. The Cyclones are the second North Division team to visit Elmira after Kalamazoo was in town for last weekend's three-in-three. Elmira was 1-1-0 at home against Cincinnati last year, but hasn't faced the Cyclones in Elmira since October 27, 2012. Artem Demkov was the overtime hero that night in a 3-2 win. The Cyclones' 3-2 win in Elmira on October 26 of last year was their first regulation win at First Arena since a 5-1triumph on February 16, 2008. Elmira boasts a 10-5-4 home record in their ECHL history against Cincinnati. Despite entering tonight as the top team in the North the Cyclones are just 4-6-0 in their last 10 games.

Rookie forward Jakub Culek waited nearly 365 days between his last amateur goal in the QMJHL and his first pro goal. He finally broke through with his first marker Nov. 15 vs. Wheeling. Culek proceeded to go on a three-game point streak (2 goals, 2 assists) and recorded his first pro multi-point game Nov. 22 vs. Kalamazoo. The Ottawa Senators' prospect is catching fire with seven points (3G, 4A) in the last 7 games.

WHEN: 7:05 p.m.
The Jackals are facing the Nailers tonight for the fifth of fifteen meetings this season and second of eight at First Arena. The Jackals are 0-4-0 against the Nailers this year after getting swept in a three-in-three series from November 14-16. The Jackals look to swing the season series in their favor on home ice tonight where they have historically dominated Wheeling. The Jackals are 22-7-2 in their ECHL history at home against the Nailers which includes a 4-1-0 mark from last year. The Jackals and Nailers have gotten used to playing nailbiters this season because three of the four prior meetings have been decided by a single goal. Wheeling enters play tonight as the hottest team in the ECHL with a 6-0-1 record in its last seven.

The Buffalo Sabres, who are without an ECHL affiliate, have strengthened the Jackals' lineup by reassigning rookie forward Colin Jacobs to Elmira from AHL Rochester. Jacobs has one assist through 13 games for the Americans, but he has some serious offensive upside. Jacobs was the top scorer for the WHL's Prince George Cougars last year with 53 points (25G, 28A) in 66 games. He also showed his grit with 98 penalty minutes which placed him second on the club. Jacobs played 11 games with Rochester on an ATO last year and had three points (1G, 2A).

Jackals Edged Out By Wheeling

ELMIRA, N.Y. - Despite a bevy of shots and power play chances the Elmira Jackals had a difficult time cashing in against Wheeling goalie Mike Condon, and it resulted in a 3-1 loss for the Jackals at First Arena on Friday night. The loss dropped Elmira to 4-10-2 on the year.

The Jackals were looking for a fast start to put the energy into their Black Friday crowd, but Wheeling got the jump when rookie Anton Zlobin beat goalie Scott Greenham for his third of the year. Zlobin cut loose a wrist shot from the right wing circle that eluded Greenham's blocker just 3:26 into the contest. Elmira answered with 11 shots against Condon, with several quality chances amongst them, but were turned away on each attempt and headed into the second period searching for the tying score.
Before Elmira could put itself on the scoreboard Tyler Fernandez chopped a loose puck past Greenham midway through the second to double Wheeling's lead. Fernandez, who was playing his second game after a call up from the Southern Professional Hockey League, took the puck after a blocked point shot from Myles Harvey and slipped it five-hole for his first goal of the season. Colin Mulvey won the faceoff to earn his first professional assist. That goal came on one of just five second period shots for Wheeling. Elmira, meanwhile, launched 16 at Condon, and the persistent pressure paid off. Rob Bellamy cashed in the rebound of a Marvin Degon point shot for his fourth of the year at 12:18. Jean Bourbeau also assisted for his fourth point (1 goal, 3 assists) in the last three games.
Elmira had been able to erase deficits of one goal and two goals in the third period of its last two games, and was looking to complete the trifecta tonight. The comeback bid hit a pothole, though, when Sahir Gill deflected a centering pass from Scott Zurevinski perfectly under the cross bar to reestablish Wheeling's two-goal lead. The Jackals had just over 17 minutes to try to tie the game, and were the beneficiaries of three third period power plays, but Wheeling's defense clamped down on the lead and held on for the victory.
Greenham stopped 21 shots and shouldered the loss while Condon turned away 34 of 35.. Elmira ended the night 0-for-6 on the power play and 4-for-4 on the penalty kill.
Mark your calendars! The Jackals return are back on home ice Saturday, November 30 to take on the Cincinnati Cyclones. The Jackals will honor Elmira Express football teams in a pregame ceremony. Jackals Earn Standings Point In Shootout Loss

READING, Pa. - The Elmira Jackals earned at least one standings point for the third time in their last four games thanks to a third period comeback effort. The win escaped Elmira, though, as Reading won the shootout 2-1 and the game 4-3 on Wednesday night at Santander Arena. The defeat moved Elmira's record to 4-9-2 on the season.

Click here for tonight's box score.
Over the last two weeks the Jackals had scored the first goal of the game just once and were forced to play from behind more often than they'd have liked. Tonight, though, they bucked that trend as Jean Bourbeau hammered home a one-timer from the left wing circle 9:52 into the game. Bourbeau, who had four assists in three games last week against Kalamazoo, stayed hot with his second goal of the season. Patch Alber picked up his first pro point with the assist, and Rob Bellamy also registered a helper. Jackals goalie Scott Greenham only saw five shots in the period, but the final one off the stick of Domenic Monardo knotted the game at one. Louie Caporusso set up the power play goal with a shot from the high slot that Greenham kicked out, but Monardo potted the rebound for his seventh of the season. Reading thought it had taken a 2-1 lead moments later, but the goal was waved off due to incidental contact with the goaltender.
Before many fans at Santander arena had settled into their seats for the start of the second Reading had taken a 2-1 lead. Monardo took the puck between the circles after a faceoff win by Caporusso and wristed a shot off of Greenham's blocker and in. The goal was Monardo's second of the night and came just 17 seconds into the frame. The Jackals spent the remainder of the period furiously trying to find the tying score. Their efforts produced 17 shots during the second period, including 10 on two power play chances, but Reading's Brandon Anderson turned away each shot he faced to keep his club ahead by one heading into the third.
Elmira's comeback effort hit an early speedbump in the third when Reading's T.J. Syner was sprung on a breakaway just past eight minutes in. The speedy forward sent a low wrist shot Greenham's way and it found a way to squeak through for a 3-1 Royals lead. The Jackals kept their collective foot on the accelerator, though, and pushed home a pair of goals to tie it. Just after his minor penalty expired, Matt Carter was sprung on a breakaway by Jakub Culek and beat Anderson high to the glove side and pulled Elmira within one. Jordan Pietrus capped the comeback with just over two minutes left when he finished a pretty centering pass by Maxim Lamarche.
In overtime the team's treated the fans to a thrilling final 10 seconds. After Greenham stopped a Reading 2-on-1, the Jackals worked a counter attack that set up Kyle Bushee with a good look from the high slot. His snap shot was blocked, though, and Syner raced the other way against the clock for a breakaway. He got a shot off with one second remaining, but Greenham slammed the door to send it to a shootout.
In the breakaway competition Carter scored in the top of the second for Elmira, but Reading got goals from Caporusso in the bottom of the fourth and Syner in the bottom of the fifth to snag the win.
Greenham stopped 21 shots in the loss while Anderson denied 34 for the win. Elmira ended the night 0-for-2 on the power play and 2-for-3 on the penalty kill.
Mark your calendars! The Jackals return are back on home ice Friday, November 29, 2013 to battle the Wheeling Nailers. The Road To The Show Presented by Liberty Travel

By Jared Abbott for JackalsHockey.com

ELMIRA, N.Y. - As the ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Ottawa Senators and New Jersey Devils, and the AHL's Binghamton Senators and Albany Devils, the Jackals are tasked with developing prospects throughout the organizations. The Road To The Show presented by Liberty Travel provides details on how those prospects are progressing.
Ottawa Senators (NHL) – New week, same result for the Ottawa Senators. Ottawa defeated Detroit Saturday but was stymied by Carolina on Sunday. The Senators remain sixth in the Atlantic Division with a 9-11-4 record. They are 5-5-0 in their last ten games and continue to perform at a lackluster level. Since making his return Nov. 12 Craig Anderson has gone 1-3-0 and continues to struggle to find his form of last year. Robin Lehner has shown strong flashes this season and has played three out of the last four games. He hasn’t fared much better and holds a 1-2-0 record in those three contests. Since receiving a call-up on Nov. 2 Mark Borowiecki has been a menacing presence on the blueline. He suffered a strained neck this past week and is questionable for Wednesday’s game. Offensively the most consistent production has come from the pairing of Bobby Ryan and Kyle Turris. When Ryan was acquired in the offseason most expected him to play on the top unit with Jason Spezza. But Ryan and Turris have shown tremendous chemistry together thus far. With 20 points in 24 games Turris is well on his way to a career year. His career high is 29 points set in each of the past two seasons. Ryan is leading the team with 11 goals and is first among Senators forwards with 22 points.
Binghamton Senators (AHL) – Despite seeing their seven-game winning streak come to a halt on Saturday the Senators have been rolling. Binghamton is 8-2-0 in its last ten games and rebounded from the loss with a 5-1 victory Sunday at Hershey. The Senators remain fourth in the Eastern Conference with a 13-5-0 record. Nathan Lawson has been a wall in net for Binghamton this year. He did suffer the loss on Saturday, but that was his first defeat since October 19. He ranks in the top five among AHL goaltenders with eight wins and a .928 save percentage. Andrew Hammond has been a very solid addition as Lawson’s backup. The rookie has won four consecutive starts including a stellar 34-save performance on Sunday. Rookie defenseman Cody Ceci is proving why he was the 15th overall selection in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. Ceci’s 15 points rank first among Binghamton’s defenseman and all rookie defensemen in the AHL. He ranks fifth among all AHL defensemen in scoring. Ottawa reassigned Troy Rutkowski from Elmira to Binghamton on Saturday three days after he was sent to Elmira.
New Jersey Devils (NHL) – New Jersey fell one goal short of doing something very few teams could boast about: winning three straight games on the road in California. Overtime victories on Wednesday and Thursday night against Anaheim and Los Angeles proved the Devils could win a physical, grind-it-out type of game. New Jersey was defeated by San Jose 2-1 on Saturday night and then returned home for a 3-1 loss to Winnipeg on Monday. The quick turnaround after a grueling California road trip led to a tired team on home ice. However, the recent success has boosted New Jersey to fourth in the Metropolitan Division with a 9-10-5 record. On Thursday Jaromir Jagr tied former teammate Mario Lemieux for ninth on the all-time scoring list with 690 career goals. Jagr’s overtime winner extended his own NHL record of 18 overtime goals and tied Gordie Howe for first on the all-time game-winning-goal list with 121. Patrik Elias is back to full strength and has goals in New Jersey’s last two games. Rookie Jon Merrill was recalled by New Jersey on Monday and returned to the Devils lineup. Adam Larsson and Stephen Gionta missed Monday’s game with lower body injuries. Ryane Clowe, Anton Volchenkov and Bryce Salvador remain on the injured reserve list.
Albany Devils (AHL) – The Devils have been red hot of late with five wins in their last six games. Albany currently sits fifth in the Eastern Conference with an 11-7-1 record. The only blemish in a stellar run was a 5-3 loss at Springfield on Friday. That was Keith Kinkaid’s first regulation time loss since the opening game of the season on October 6. He has been purely dominant for the Devils posting a 7-2-1 record. His 1.97 goals-against-average ranks third in the AHL and his two shutouts are tied for the league lead. Jon Merrill returned and skated in three games for the Devils before New Jersey recalled him on Monday. Merrill had an assist during Saturday’s victory against Adirondack. Raman Hrabarenka has skated in eight games and logged two assists since he was reassigned by New Jersey to Albany from Elmira on November 5. Riley Boychuk has played in six games with one goal for the Devils since New Jersey reassigned him.

Join the Jackals For Turkeys and Football This Thanksgiving Weekend

ELMIRA, N.Y. - This weekend the Elmira Jackals will give their fans a chance to enjoy some turkey and football in celebration of the Thanksgiving holiday. Two distinctly unique promotions are planned for the home games this Friday and Saturday the club announced today.
"Turkey and football are two hallmarks of Thanksgiving. We're going to incorporate them into our games this weekend in ways that our fans won't forget any time soon," said Jackals and First Arena general manager Matt Hufnagel.
On Friday, November 29 the Jackals take on the Wheeling Nailers at 7:05 p.m. That night the Jackals are going to have their first-ever "Bag A Turkey" contest on the ice. Six live turkeys will be released onto the First Arena ice during the first intermission of Friday's game, and 12 teams of two will compete to catch the live turkeys. Those who do will get a free frozen turkey courtesy of Jubilee Foods. The competitors will be given heavy duty gloves and helmets with facial protection to guard against injury while they try to catch their turkey.
Helping the Jackals select the contestants for the "Bag A Turkey" game are Stevie Swing of 94 Rock and "The Morning Magic" hosts Brian Stoll and Marla Skye on Magic 92.7 FM. Aspiring contestants will have to call in to one of the respective shows during their air time between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. (The Morning Magic) or 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. (Just Plain Steve) and explain why their team is the best choice to go on to the ice and try to bag a turkey. Stevie, and Stoll and Skye, will select their respective teams during their shows on November 29, and the contestants will all receive complimentary tickets to the Jackals game that night.
The weekend's fun continues on Saturday, November 30 when the Jackals hold a special pregame ceremony to honor the Elmira Express varsity and junior varsity football teams. The varsity team will be recognized for making it all the way to the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Class AA semifnal which was played Saturday, November 23 at Sahlen's Stadium in Rochester. The Express fought hard but fell 19-6 to the top-ranked Rochester Aquinas team. The future is bright for the Express, though, as the undefeated junior varsity program will also be honored during the pregame ceremony this Saturday.
As part of the celebration in honor of the football teams' successes, the Jackals are offering complimentary tickets to students at Elmira Free Academy and Southside High School. Students can show their student ID card at the First Arena Box Office on Saturday prior to the game in order to receive their free ticket. The offer is valid only for the Saturday, November 30 home game against Cincinnati and cannot be combined with any other offer. For additional information please call the Jackals at 607-734-7825.

Jackals Trade for 2012-13 All-ECHL Second Team Defenseman

ELMIRA, N.Y. - The Elmira Jackals announced today that they have traded for veteran defenseman Nick Tuzzolino. Tuzzolino comes to Elmira from the Fort Wayne Komets in exchange for defenseman Jordon Southorn.
Tuzzolino, a Buffalo, N.Y. native, had seven points (1 goal, 6 assists) in 13 games with Fort Wayne to begin the season. The 6-5, 225-pound defenseman also racked up 46 penalty minutes while serving as the Komets' captain.
Last season he split the season between the ECHL's Utah Grizzlies and the American Hockey League's Abbotsford Heat. With the Grizzlies he was fourth in the league, and tops among defenseman, with 21 power play assists and was ranked the second best defenseman in the league for power play points (23) in only 44 games. He ranked fifth and eighth, respectively, among defenseman in the league for assist (31) and points (36).  For his efforts Tuzzolino was named to the 2012-13 All-ECHL Second Team. He also saw action in 14 games with the Heat and registered one goal along with 11 penalty minutes.
Tuzzolino was a seventh round draft pick (#196 overall) by the New York Islanders in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. In seven years as a pro Tuzzolino has appeared in 296 ECHL games to date combined between Alaska, Utah, Wheeling, and Fort Wayne. He has totaled 153 points (35 goals, 118 assists) and 743 penalty minutes in that time. He has also logged 50 AHL games between Abbotsford, Lake Erie, and Portland. Before turning pro Tuzzolino played five seasons in the Ontario Hockey League splitting time with the Sarina Sting and Sudbury Wolves with 70 points (13 goals, 57 assists) and 338 penalty minutes in 168 games.
Southorn recorded four points in three games for Elmira to begin the season before leaving to sign a contract with Scotland's Dundee Stars of the Elite Ice Hockey League.

Mark your calendars! The Jackals return home on November 29, 2013 to take on the CincinnatiCyclones  at 7:05 p.m. Don't forget that groups of 10 or more who book in advance receive discounts off the box office price and preferred seating based on availability. Jackals Clip the Wings

ELMIRA, N.Y. - The Elmira Jackals claimed three of a possible six standings points from this weekend's three-in-three with Kalamazoo thanks to a 2-1 win at First Arena on Sunday evening. The win improved Elmira to 4-9-1 on the season.

Elmira hadn't been able to score first against Kalamazoo in either of the prior two meetings in this weekend's three-in-three, and that trend continued on Sunday. The Wings' Ludwig Blomstrand crashed the net to put home a rebound for his fourth goal of the season 12:10 into the game. John Armstrong started the play with a wrist shot from the top of the right wing circle. Elmira's Scott Greenham made the initial save, but Blomstrand reached around a Jackals defender to tuck the puck in. Elmira was limited to 15 shots in Saturday's 2-0 loss, but nearly matched that shot total in the first period Sunday. Despite their 11 shots the Jackals couldn't solve Kalamazoo's Jordan Binnington and headed into the second down by one.
Kalamazoo gave its best effort to extend the lead in the second and out-shot the Jackals 12-5. Greenham was at his best when his team needed him the most, however, and held the Wings' attack at bay. Kalamazoo's effort was aided by a 3-1 advantage in power play opportunities during the second. Elmira's penalty kill stood tall for the second game in a row, though, and ran its streak to five consecutive penalties killed off. That defensive effort set the stage for the third period comeback.
Elmira's pressure on the forecheck directly led to the tying goal by Jakub Culek just over eight minutes into the third. With Mathieu Gagnon pressuring up ice from his defensive position, the Wings skated into a trap on the right wing wall. After Marvin Degon jarred the puck loose, Jean Bourbeau centered to Culek who was all alone between the circles. The rookie's low, hard wrist shot beat Binnington for his third goal of the year. Bourbeau was at the forefront of the go-ahead goal just 2:59 later. After winning a puck battle on the right wing, the Jackals captain centered to Kyle Bushee at the left point. Bushee tried to return it to a driving Bourbeau at the right post, but instead the puck banked in off of a Wings defender. It was Bushee's second of the year and stood up as the winner behind seven saves by Greenham in the third.
Greenham stopped 30 shots all together to earn his fourth win of the year. Binnington took his third loss with 22 stops. Elmira ended the night 0-for-2 on the power play and 3-for-3 on the penalty kill.
Mark your calendars! The Jackals return are back on home ice Friday, November 29, 2013 to battle the Wheeling Nailers. Pietrus and Jackals Give Back with Read and Score Program

By Jared Abbott for JackalsHockey.com

Horseheads, N.Y. - Hockey players may be regarded as tough, gritty and tenacious on the ice but off the ice they are gentle, amiable and inspirational. Last Monday, following a tough road trip, the Jackals were given an off day. The players could have spent their time catching up on rest, visiting loved ones or taking some personal time. Instead, six Jackals paid a visit to the Center Street Elementary School in Horseheads, NY to kick off the Read and Score with the Jackals Program.
Jordan Pietrus, who created the program three years ago, wanted to find a way to give back to the Elmira community and found an opportunity through Hockey Players for Kids.
“They [Hockey Players for Kids] had some similar programs so I contacted our team to see if they had any contacts in the community,” said Pietrus. “We talked and met the people here at Center Street Elementary School and worked on figuring out something that would work for the Jackals and Center Street [Elementary School].”
Pietrus used the baseline that Hockey Players for Kids had set up and gave birth to the Read and Score Program. It provides a fun way for students to build the fundamental skills that will be necessary for higher learning and basic functioning. Pietrus wanted to create an enjoyable way for students to develop these essential abilities.
The main component of the program revolves around personal reading time.
“Children go home each night and read on their own time and record how much time they spent reading,” said Pietrus. “Their parents have to sign off on it and they bring it in and we log the number of minutes that they read.”
In addition to promoting reading with young students, Pietrus has introduced a new element in the program’s third year.
“This year we added a math and critical thinking component to the Read and Score Program,” said Pietrus. “We are challenging the students to think critically and work on their problem-solving abilities.”
There is a fun incentive for the students who are participating in the program. Starting this Saturday, November 23, students from each grade will be recognized at center ice during Jackals home games for their dedication and commitment to their studies. The weekly acknowledgments culminate in a memorable reward at the conclusion of the Read and Score Program.
“At the end of the program fifteen students from each grade get to play a floor hockey game with the Jackals,” said Pietrus. “It is a lot of fun.”
Pietrus, who graduated from Brown University with a degree in commerce, organizations and entrepreneurship, has been heavily involved in the community since his college days. He recruited some of his teammates this past Monday to participate and enjoy the experience with the young learners.
Rob Bellamy, Jean Bourbeau, Kyle Bushee, Danny Hobbs and Patch Alber joined Pietrus and read to grade 1-4 students in the school’s cafeteria, gym and library. The youthful exuberance gleaming on the faces of the students was beyond description. After reading to the eager listeners each Jackals player answered questions and imparted important life lessons. The students were not the only ones who took something away from the day.
“It’s a great way to give back to the community and it puts everything into perspective,” said Pietrus. “Its very humbling to be here in front of younger kids and see how excited they are to see us and see the smiles on their faces. It goes to show that wins and losses aren’t everything and goals, assists and points aren’t everything. When it comes down to it there is more to life than hockey and this brings you right back down to Earth.”
Although the six Jackals players will never admit it they were heroes in the eyes of the young students at Center Street Elementary School on Monday.

Jackals Blanked by Wings

ELMIRA, N.Y. - One night after netting five goals the Elmira Jackals couldn't muster the offense to take down the Kalamazoo Wings on Saturday night at First Arena. The 2-0 setback moved Elmira's record to 3-9-1 on the season.

Jordan Pietrus brought the Jackals, and the crowd, to life 16 seconds into the game when he dropped the gloves with Kalamazoo's Eric Kattelus. The Jackals used that energy to generate their most productive period in terms of scoring chances and put six shots on Kalamazoo goalie, and former Jackal, Joel Martin. Two solid scoring chances came on a power play with Wings defenseman Sam Ftorek serving a slashing minor. Martin, who turned away each of Elmira's shots in the first, was matched save-for-save in the opening stanza by Elmira's Scott Greenham. The teams headed into the second looking to break the scoreless duel.
The Jackals locked down hard in the second and did an exemplary job of limiting the Wings' scoring chances until the final minute. Shortly after an Elmira power play expired, the Wings halted a Jackals breakout attempt and turned it into a short odd-man rush. Adam Polasek sent a centering pass around a diving Kyle Bushee to Aaron Clarke between the circles. Clarke wristed a shot high to the blocker side past Greenham for his first goal of the season. Shots favored Kalamazoo 6-5 in the second.
The Wings got progressively better at limiting Elmira's chances as the game wore on and that helped them preserve the one-goal lead in the third. Kalamazoo had an 11-4 advantage in shots and picked up a late goal by Ludwig Blomstrand to seal the win. After causing a turnover at the Wings' line, David Pacan led the 3-on-1 into Elmira ice. His pass connected with an open Blomstrand on the left wing who scored high blocker side on Greenham for his third of the year. Despite just four shots, Elmira had one glorious chance to tie the game midway through the period. While on a power play, Ludwig Karlsson hit an open Artem Demkov on the doorstep. Demkov unleashed a high, hard one-timer but Martin's diving stick save kept Kalamazoo in the driver's seat.
Greenham took his fifth loss of the season despite 24 saves on 26 shots. Martin picked up his first shutout of the year with 15 stops. Elmira ended the night 0-for-4 on the power play and 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.
Mark your calendars! The Jackals return are back on home ice Sunday, November 24 to battle the Kalamazoo Wings. Stick around after the game for the Jackals' first post-game skate with the team this year. Skates are available to rent if you do not have your own.
