ELMIRA, N.Y. - The Elmira Jackals wrapped up their Thanksgiving weekend festivities with a 2-1 win over the Cincinnati Cyclones on Saturday night at First Arena. The win improved Elmira's record to 5-10-2 on the season.

In the first meeting this season between the Jackals and Cyclones, Elmira asserted itself as the dominant team during the first period. The Jackals out-shot Cincinnati 23-7 and were rewarded with two goals for their efforts. Rob Bellamy netted his second goal in as many games, and fifth of the year, just past eight minutes into the contest when he spiked home the rebound of a Kyle Bushee point shot. Christian Ouellet also assisted for his first point as a Jackal. Artem Demkov followed up with his 10th of the year 3:28 after Bellamy's marker to double Elmira's lead. Scott Greenham stopped each of the seven shots he faced in the first, but that was only a precursor of what was to come.
Elmira ended up shorthanded by two men 36 seconds into the third period, and Cincinnati was able to pressure offensively for the first time all game. The Cyclones manage three shots in the 1:40 of 5-on-3 play, but none of them found their way past Greenham. Shortly after the teams returned to full strength Cincinnati tested Greenham with two different breakaways but he answered the bell on both. The Cyclones finally broke through off the rush when John McFarland hammered home a one-timer off a feed from Adam Brace. That was part of a 16-shot barrage by the Cyclones in the second. Elmira responded with 13 of its own and, thanks to 15 saves by Greenham along with the work of the penalty killers, took the lead into the third.
Elmira's special teams play hit another level in the final frame. The Jackals first killed off a high-sticking double-minor to Jordan Pietrus just before the period was six minutes old, and then turned Cincinnati away when Matt Carter went off for hooking with a little over two minutes to go. Cincinnati pulled goalie Michael Houser while Carter served his infraction and gained a 6-on-4 skater advantage. In all the Cyclones peppered Greenham with 13 shots in the third but were turned away at every opportunity.
Greenham earned his fifth win of the season in stopping 35 shots while Houser took his fourth loss with 40 stops. Elmira ended the night 0-for-3 on the power play and 8-for-8 on the penalty kill.
