Jackals Acquire Bergin From Orlando

ELMIRA, N.Y. - The Elmira Jackals, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Buffalo Sabres and the AHL's Rochester Americans, announced today that the team has acquired defenseman Mike Bergin (6-foot-3, 210-pounds) from the Orlando Solar Bears in exchange for future considerations.
  
Bergin, 26, signed with Orlando during the summer but did not appear in any games for the Solar Bears. The Ottawa, Ontario native played each of the last two seasons for Sodertalje in the Allsvenskan League (Second Division in Sweden), recording 14 points (four goals, 10 assists) and 140 penalty minutes in 95 games.

Prior to turning pro, Bergin played four seasons for RPI (Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute). During his season season, Bergin served as the team captain and led the Engineers with 75 penalty minutes and finished second among RPI defensemen with 10 points (two goals, eight assists). He skated in 107 NCAA games, tallying 40 points (eight goals, 32 assists) and 163 penalty minutes. Bergin was drafted by the Dallas Stars in the seventh round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, which was the round after Jackals captain Matt Tassone was selected by the Stars.
