Game Preview: Elmira Jackals at Evansville Icemen 11-5-14

EVANSVILLE, I.N. - The Elmira Jackals, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Buffalo Sabres and AHL's Rochester Americans, travel to Evansville to take on former bench boss Dwight Mullins and the Icemen.

The Jackals hit the road to face former bench boss Dwight Mullins and the Evansville Icemen on Wednesday morning. This marks the first of six meetings this season and the first of two in at the Ford Center. Last season the Jackals went 4-1-0 overall against the Icemen and 2-0-0 on the road. Brayden Irwin leads the Jackals offensive attack and is on a seven-game point streak (five goals, seven assists) to start the season. He posted five points (three goals, two assists) in the two-game weekend against Brampton and he currently leads the ECHL with 12 points. Captain Matt Tassone is currently riding a three-game goal streak and was named the Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 27-Nov. 2 for his six point effort in the Jackals' weekend sweep over Brampton.
 
Jackals captain Matt Tassone has been named the Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week for Oct. 27-Nov.2. Tassone notched six points (three goals, three assists) and was plus-6 last week as the Jackals swept their weekend series against the Brampton Beast. The St. Albert, Alberta native recorded a shorthanded goal and added an assist on the overtime game-winning-goal in Friday night's 3-2 win. The next night he tallied two goals and two assists and finished plus-4 in the 5-3 victory.

The Jackals put a combined 98 shots on goal against Brampton this past weekend. Elmira recorded 49 shots on goal each night en route to 3-2 and 5-3 victories. The Jackals rank third in the league with 35.57 shots for per game.
