Jackals Stung By Stingrays, 5-0

ELMIRA, NY - The Elmira Jackals were stung by the South Carolina Stingrays tonight and dropped their lone meeting, 5-0.
Former Reading Royal, Brock Higgs, gave the Stingrays a 1-0 lead 13:24 into the first period. The point shot hit Nick Tuzzolino up high and dropped to the ice in the slot for Higgs to deposit for his second of the season.

The Stingrays potted four goals in the second period to build an insurmountable lead. Joe Devin was the beneficiary of a power-play goal 5:00 into the second period to extend South Carolina's lead to 2-0. Just 3:03 later Derek DeBlois netted his third of the season and added another Stingrays' tally. Garrett Haar scored on the man advantage at 12:47 of the second period to put South Carolina up 4-0. Wayne Simpson finished off the scoring at 15:28 of the second period with his sixth of the season and third point of the night. Simpson finished with three points (one goal, two assists) and Branden Gracel and Haar added multi-point efforts.

The frustration boiled over in the third period, which resulted in fights between Taylor Stefishen and Scott Ford as well as Ryan Hand and Anthony Collins.

Sam Marotta stopped 11 of 14 shots faced and was pulled in the second period for Travis Fullerton who stopped 10 of 12 shots faced. Marotta was handed the loss. Stingrays' netminder Jeff Jakaitis stopped all 17 shots he faced for his second shutout of the season.
