Hockey Headlines Home For The Holidays In Elmira

ELMIRA, N.Y. - The Elmira Jackals, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Buffalo Sabres and AHL's Rochester Americans, announced today that hockey will headline the Home for the Holidays in Elmira on December 5-7, 2014 as a collaborative effort from Elmira College, First Arena, the city of Elmira and Elmira Downtown. Home for the Holidays will feature Elmira Jackals hockey, Elmira Jackals Youth Hockey, downtown holiday festivities and the Elmira College men's and women's hockey teams in NCAA Division III action.

The fun at First Arena begins on Friday, December 5 at 7:05 p.m. when the Jackals host the South Carolina Stingrays.

The excitement continues on Saturday, December 6 with an action-packed day of activities, celebrations and hockey games at First Arena. The day will begin in the morning with Elmira Jackals Youth Hockey games at 9:00 a.m. and 10:15 a.m.

Following the Elmira Jackals Youth Hockey games, there will be a free public skate inside First Arena from 12:00-1:00 p.m. and outdoor festivities running from 12:00-7:00 p.m. that will line Main Street from the intersection of Water Street and Main Street to the intersection of Church Street and Main Street. Street hockey games for all age groups will run all day long on Main Street. Teams of three can enter to participate in segmented age levels ranging from 6 & under to an adult division. The streets will be blocked off from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Saturday with vendors set up along Main Street and Wisner Park.

The Elmira College men's team will hit the ice at 3:00 p.m. against Wesleyan University followed by the tree lighting ceremony at 5:00 p.m. located at Mark Twain Riverfront Park. The Jackals will headline the night against the Toledo Walleye at First Arena with the puck drop at 7:05 p.m.

The weekend finale on Sunday begins at 9:30 a.m. with an Elmira Jackals Youth Hockey game, then highlights the Elmira College women's team in an ECAC-West clash against SUNY Potsdam at 1:00 p.m. The weekend wraps up with the Jackals game at 4:05 p.m. versus the Wichita Thunder.
