Jackals Promote Abbott to Assistant General Manager of Hockey Operations

ELMIRA, N.Y. - The Elmira Jackals, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Buffalo Sabres and AHL's Rochester Americans, announced today that they have promoted Jared Abbott to Assistant General Manager of Hockey Operations.

"As an integral member of the Jackals' Front Office, Jared has taken ownership of a number of important hockey operations projects, and his substantial contributions to the hockey operations department this summer have assisted the Jackals in assembling a strong, fast team that our community will be proud of," said co-owner Nate Cook. 

Abbott previously held the title of Director of Broadcasting and Media Relations, which he was named to this past April. As Assistant General Manager of Hockey Operations, Abbott will work closely with Jackals head coach Jamie Russell while playing an instrumental role in daily hockey operations and player relations. He will still perform his role as the play-by-play broadcaster for the Jackals as well as continuing his duties with media and public relations and corporate sales.

"I am very grateful for the opportunity that Mr. Cook and Mr. Freeman has given me," said Abbott. "This is a top-notch organization with a tremendous staff and a commitment to winning the Kelly Cup. I am looking forward to building a championship product in Elmira."

Abbott spent his first year with the organization as a post-graduate communications intern. He assisted with the daily broadcasting duties and helped shoulder the load of media responsibilities. Prior to joining the Jackals and First Arena, Abbott was the play-by-play broadcaster for Penn State University's NCAA Division I men's ice hockey team. 

In his years at Penn State, Abbott broadcasted many levels of men's and women's ice hockey. The Flemington, New Jersey native played two season of club ice hockey at Penn State before he joined the broadcasting department. Prior to attending Penn State, Abbott played junior hockey for the New Jersey Renegades of the Metropolitan Junior Hockey League.
