Jackals Agree to Terms with Forward Ryan Rashid

ELMIRA, N.Y. - The Elmira Jackals, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Buffalo Sabres and AHL's Rochester Americans, announced today that rookie forward Ryan Rashid has signed a Standard Player Contract for the 2014-2015 season.

"Ryan is a talented young man with an impressive blend of size and speed," said Jackals head coach Jamie Russell. "He plays with hunger and passion, which are two core attributes that we require of our men. Ryan had a very strong ECHL debut last season. We anticipate that he will develop into one of the league's top forwards this season."

Rashid, 24, returns to Elmira after beginning his professional career with the Jackals at the end of last season. The 6-foot-2 200-pound forward posted four points (two goals, two assists) in six games with Elmira. The Detroit, MI native transitioned to the pro ranks after a successful four-year career at Niagara University. Rashid recorded 88 points (38 goals, 50 assists) in 143 collegiate games. He helped lead the Purple Eagles to the American Hockey Association regular season championship in 2012-2013. Rashid was named to the AHA All-Rookie Team in 2010-2011 after notching 26 points (13 goals, 13 assists) in 34 games.

"I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to return to Elmira and the Buffalo organization," said Rashid. "With Coach Russell's experience and enthusiasm, I believe we have the foundation for success and will have a strong season. I was impressed with the city and fan's support during my short time there last season and look forward to being back there soon."

Prior to attending Niagara University, Rashid played his junior hockey for the Sioux City Musketeers of the United States Hockey League and the St. Louis Bandits of the North American Hockey League. Rashid helped the Bandits win the Robertson Cup as the NAHL champion in 2008-2009.
