The Jackals are facing the Royals tonight for the 16th of 16 meetings this season and the seventh of seven at First Arena. Elmira is 2-12-1 against Reading this season, which includes a 0-6-0 record on the Jackals' home ice. Elmira was 2-2-1 in the season series against Reading heading into a home date with the Royals on December 26. Reading claimed the win that night and began a run of 10 consecutive victories against the Jackals. In the seven-year series between the Jackals (97 games) Reading's current win streak is the longest. The Jackals have scored first in three of their last five meetings with the Royals, including a 2-0 lead at home on February 12, but have not been able to maintain the lead. The last time the Jackals defeated Reading at First Arena was February 15, 2013. Rob Bellamy and Jordan Pietrus accounted for half of the quartet that produced the Jackals' offense that night while Kyle Bushee and Jean Bourbeau potted assists.

On January 16 Danny Hobbs matched his goal total from his rookie season last year as part of a two-point night (1G, 1A) in a win at Cincinnati. That night sparked a stretch of red-hot play for the winger from Shawville, Quebec. Hobbs has 18 points (8G, 10A) in his last 19 games with Elmira. Hobbs has 33 points on the season, which surpasses the 31 he posted as a rookie with Greenville last year.
