WHEELING, W.Va. - In the finale of their four-game road trip the Jackals picked up a standings point but fell in overtime to the Wheeling Nailers. Saturday's 3-2 defeat at WesBanco Arena left the Jackals' record at 9-16-4 on the season.

Scott Greenham started for the third time in Elmira's last four games and turned in 14 saves during a busy first period. His effort nearly kept the Jackals on even footing with Wheeling through 20 minutes, but rookie Colin Mulvey pounced on a rebound and smacked it across the line for his third of the season at 17:42. Max MacKay made the key play on the goal with a shot from the right wing circle that bounced off of Greenham's pad to Mulvey. Elmira managed six shots against Wheeling starter Mathieu Corbeil but could not dent the scoreboard against the second-year pro.
The Jackals regrouped in the second and came out with a determined effort to knot the score. Corbeil was unwilling to oblige them and nearly thwarted the entirety of Elmira's 14-shot barrage. The final bid finally cracked Corbeil, though, as Matt Carter finished off a back-door pass from Christian Ouellet with three seconds left in the period. Jakub Culek started the tic-tac-toe play by hitting Ouellet with a cross-ice pass from the right wing circle, and Ouellet followed up with a back pass to Carter for the goal. It was Carter's eighth of the year and third on the power play. Greenham stopped each of the 10 shots he faced to send the game into the third with the Jackals looking for their first lead of the night.
The third period saw Elmira launch even more rubber at Corbeil but unable to secure that go-ahead goal. Jack McLellan punched home his sixth of the year from the doorstep to put Wheeling ahead 2-1 at 5:45. Wheeling didn't get to enjoy the lead for long, though, as Patch Alber tipped home his second goal of the year just under five minutes later to draw the Jackals even. Rob Bellamy took an outlet pass from Zach McCullough and raced down the left wing to set up the Alber score. The Jackals continued to chip away in an effort to end the game in regulation, but went into overtime on the penalty kill due to a tripping minor with eight seconds to play.
Wheeling's Myles Harvey put home a one-timer from the top of the right wing circle 20 seconds into the extra session for the win.
Greenham turned in 32 saves in taking his second overtime loss of the season. The Jackals ended the night 1-for-2 on the power play and penalty kill.
