The Jackals are facing the Stingrays tonight for the second of four meetings this season and the first of two at First Arena. Elmira is 0-1-0 against South Carolina this season, after a 2-0 defeat at the North Charleston Coliseum on New Year's Eve. Tonight is South Carolina's first visit to the Twin Tiers since November 24, 2012 - a night on which the Stingrays claimed a 5-1 win behind 39 saves from Goalie of the Year Ryan Zapolski and a pair of goals from current Jackal Daniel Koger. That loss moved Elmira's all-time home record against South Carolina to 3-5-1. The Stingrays enter tonight looking to turn things around after a loss to start their season-long six-game road trip while the Jackals are searching for a win after dropping the first of a season-long seven-game home stand.
On January 16 Danny Hobbs matched his goal total from his rookie season last year as part of a two-point night (1G, 1A) in a win at Cincinnati. That night sparked a stretch of red-hot play for the winger from Shawville, Quebec. After a two-point game (1G, 1A) last night vs. Wheeling, Hobbs has 15 points (6G, 7A) in his last 14 games with Elmira. He also averaged a point per game in his first career AHL stint with a goal and an assist in two games with Binghamton from Feb. 1 to Feb. 5. Hobbs needs just two points to surpass the 31 he posted as a rookie with Greenville last year.
